Start of main content,

At first glance, the Kulturforum in Berlin is not one of the city’s green oases. And yet, this prominent architectural ensemble of buildings – which was once intended as a green link to the Tiergarten – actually has five little-known gardens: the “Philharmonischer Garten” belonging to the Philharmonic and State Institute for Music Research, the “Reading Garden” of the Staatsbibliothek, the “Sculpture Garden” of the Neue Nationalgalerie, the interior garden of the Kunstgewerbemuseum and the Matthäikirchplatz, a square in front of the St. Matthäus church. On admission-free “Museum Sunday”, as part of the Berlin Kultursommerfestival, each of these gardens will become a venue for concerts, performances, readings, guided tours, church services and open-air eating (“Tafel”). These outdoor events will be complemented by offerings in the Kunstbibliothek, the Gemäldegalerie and in the Kupferstichkabinett. It’s a unique opportunity to get to know the green side of the Kulturforum – free of charge and with no need for a car. The day’s events are the result of a collaborative effort by all neighbours in the Kulturforum. With concerts, guided tours, performances, readings, discussions, church services and picnics.
