What is Draussenstadt?

DRAUSSENSTADT is a real Berlin pioneer program that aims at the cultural participation of many people. It bundles, shows and enables Berlin's outdoor urban culture.

DRAUSSENSTADT connects great ideas, artistic productions and committed people, creates new spaces for urban culture and shared urban experiences. And DRAUSSENSTADT is everywhere: in well-known places as well as in Berlin's open spaces, open-air stages and summer cinemas. And in places that are yet to be discovered.

DRAUSSENSTADT builds on the Council for the Arts' Urbane Praxis initiative and has been managed and funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion since 2020. This year, the cultural administration is supporting 26 artistic and cultural projects in public spaces that deal with urban space and urban society via the Urban Practice Project Fund. The district's cultural funding program "BESD" continues to enable Berlin event organizers to stage free outdoor events.

The Kultursommerfestival, previously an integral part of DRAUSSENSTADT, will take place this year as FUSSBALLKULTURSOMMER. This will be organized as part of the UEFA EURO 2024 with many Berlin cultural professionals. It will kick off on 12 June with a grand opening show in front of the Brandenburg Gate. This will be followed by 100 free and outdoor events on all 31 days of the European Championships - in the Fan Zone Berlin and throughout the city.
