DRAUSSENSTADT - the platform for Berlin's outdoor urban culture! After a successful start in 2021, DRAUSSENSTADT is once again THE platform for open-air culture in Berlin this year. The heart of our website is the comprehensive calendar of events. A total of over 9,000 events have been published here so far, including various open-air formats of all cultural genres, from concerts, readings and theater to innovative art events, poetry slams and city tours. Well-known venues and event locations are used, as well as public places, green areas and parks. Culture takes place outside! The platform is operated by Kulturprojekte Berlin.

As in previous years, in 2024 the cultural administration also announced various funding programmes as part of DRAUSSENSTADT, the Berliner Projekfonds Urbane Praxis (funding for public artistic projects that address urban space and urban society in Berlin) and the district funding BESD to strengthen decentralized and low-threshold cultural offerings throughout the city.

In addition, in 2022 and 2023, the Kultursommerfestival was organized by Kulturprojekte Berlin together with many partners across the city - free of charge and outdoors, of course.

A particular highlight this year was the FUSSBALLKULTURSOMMER, which took place from June 14 to July 14. This was organized by Kulturprojekte Berlin with many of Berlin's creative professionals as part of the UEFA EURO 2024. It kicked off on June 12 with a grand opening show in front of the Brandenburg Gate. This was followed by 100 free and outdoor events on all 31 days of the European Championships - in the Fan Zone Berlin and throughout the city.

DRAUSSENSTADT was launched in 2021 by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion and is based on the Berlin Council for the Arts' (Rat für die Künste) initiative “Urbane Praxis”. Partners from the very beginning were the Urbane Praxis project office, the Stiftung für Kulturelle Weiterbildung und Kulturberatung, the Clubcommission and us, Kulturprojekte Berlin.

Together with the Berlin districts, the Senate Department for Urban Mobility, Transport, Climate Action and the Environment and the Clubcommission, the cultural senate supported the establishment of new cultural venues in the city in 2021. As an example of this, 13 model spaces were modernized as event venues in 2021, which were offered and managed by host collectives for outdoor events of the Call for Action. In addition, the programs of the initiative “Urbane Praxis” were funded as well as this platform and the communication of DRAUSSENSTADT.
